Counsel #7 — Identity In His Image

Picture: Counsel #7 — Identity In His ImageCI 24.1

Our primary source of identity is that we are created in the very image of God Himself (Genesis 1:26, 27) and through faith in His sacrifice for our sins, we are included in His family by adoption.CI 24.2

As we recognize our value as children of God, we realize the equal value of all God’s children.[22]https://adventistreview.org/magazine-article/where-the-battle-lies/ We seek unity in His family, and we seek the salvation of those still outside His family. Because we are forgiven and accepted while we are unworthy, we forgive and accept others.CI 24.3

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8, 9 NKJVCI 24.4

“Man was to bear God’s image, both in outward resemblance and in character. Christ alone is ‘the express image’ (Hebrews 1:3) of the Father; but man was formed in the likeness of God…. Christ, after having redeemed man from the condemnation of the law, could impart divine power to unite with human effort. Thus by repentance toward God and faith in Christ the fallen children of Adam might once more become ‘sons of God.’ 1 John 3:2.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, pp. 45, 64CI 24.5

Reflect: In what ways do you reflect Jesus’ character in your own life, and in what areas do you seek growth to be more like Him?CI 24.6
