    Counsel #4 — Selflessness

    Picture: Counsel #4 — SelflessnessCI 53.1

Mindfulness is compatible with the Christian concept of selflessness. We are born with a selfish and self-centered nature. But by focusing on the needs of others in the present moment and asking God to give us empathy and compassion, we can get past ourselves and our selfishness. Jesus told us to "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 19:19), emphasizing the importance of going out of our way to extend kindness, patience, and understanding to those around us.[53]https://www.adventist.org/nature-of-humanity/CI 53.2

And the best news is that God wants to share His Divine nature with us (2 Peter 1:4) so that we desire to be unselfish and compassionate, even to people that are annoying or have bad attitudes.CI 53.3

“But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” Hebrews 13:16 NKVCI 53.4

“Jesus…was ever touched with human woe, and our hearts should be softened and subdued by His Holy Spirit that we may be like Him.” Ellen White in That I May Know Him, p. 45CI 53.5
