Counsel #19 — On the Job

Picture: Counsel #19 — On the JobCI 58.1

Some days, you may get through work just fine, while other days, it could feel like you’re forcing yourself into a mold that doesn’t quite fit. Sure, you show up every day, do your best, and try to stay grateful for the consistent paycheck, but deep down, you’re drowning in “what ifs.”CI 58.2

Although working a mundane 8 to 5 may be your normal right now, it doesn’t mean you weren’t purposed for more. God designed you with intention, which means you weren’t made to just survive the workweek. Think about Joseph in the Bible. He literally had dreams of leadership, but ended up as a slave, then a prisoner. His jobs didn’t reflect his calling - at least not at first. But God was shaping him the whole time, developing his character and strengthening his faith - two things that lay the groundwork for purpose. When the time was right, God elevated him, and He’ll do the same for you. So, pray to God and ask Him to show you which profession He has in mind for you.[58] https://stewardship.adventist.org/page132 He’ll answer, in His time.CI 58.3

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…” Colossians 3:23 NIVCI 58.4

“The Lord disciplines His workers, so that they will be prepared to fill the places appointed them.” Ellen White in To Be Like Jesus, p. 72CI 58.5

Reflect: Is your current job helping you grow into God’s purpose?CI 58.6
