When Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “When will these things be?” He told them that signs of His coming include false christs and messiahs, wars and rumors of wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, persecution, betrayal, false prophets, and lawlessness. Jesus also said the gospel would be given to all the world before He will return, as well as the onset of a time of tribulation such has never been since the beginning of time. (see Matthew 24, Luke 21, Mark 13 for more signs of Christ’s soon return).CFL 36.2
“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors!” Matthew 24:33 NKJVCFL 36.3
“Christ has given signs of His coming. He declares that we may know when He is near, even at the doors. He says of those who see these signs, ‘This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.’ These signs have appeared. Now we know of a surety that the Lord’s coming is at hand.” Ellen White in The Desire of Ages, p. 632CFL 36.4
Reflect: Have you thought recently about chaos, wars and calamities in our world and wondered, “Why has Jesus not come back yet?” CFL 36.5
