The story of Pentecost in Acts 2 helps us understand the setting in which God may choose to pour out the special gift of His Spirit in latter rain power. As the early church prayed together in harmony and without dissention (see Acts 1:14) they were filled with the Holy Spirit, demonstrated dramatically in tongues of fire upon each of them. Perhaps songs of praise mingled with intense petitions for the promised blessing of the Spirit (see Acts 1:8). When the Spirit descended, it gave them the ability to preach in languages understood by those gathered for Pentecost from all parts of the then known world.CFL 65.2
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.” Acts 2:1, 2 NKJVCFL 65.3
“The convocations of the church, as in camp meetings, the assemblies of the home church, and all occasions where there are personal labor for souls, are God’s appointed opportunities for giving the early and the latter rain.” Ellen White in Testimonies to Ministers, p. 506CFL 65.4
