Many people believe that if they were to see a shining extraterrestrial being, it must be an angel from heaven, perhaps a loved one who has passed away.CFL 8.2
While it is true that there are indeed angels from heaven who guard our paths (see Psalms 91:11, 12), there are also angels who have fallen and can present themselves as angels of light, or as the resurrected dead. Today’s media and entertainment culture are saturated with references to life after death experiences and communication-with-the-dead themes. This emphasis is preparing masses of people to accept a deception of Satan which could affect their eternal destiny.CFL 8.3
“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.”2 Corinthians 11:12, 13 NKJVCFL 8.4
“Multitudes have come to believe that it is spirits of the dead who are the ‘ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation.’ And this notwithstanding the testimony of Scripture to the existence of heavenly angels, and their connection with the history of man, before the death of a human being.” Ellen White in The Great Controversy, p. 551CFL 8.5
Reflect:How could you know if you’re encountering an angel from God or an angel of Satan pretending to be an angel of light?CFL 8.6
