Picture: Counsel #4 — Immortal Bodies In HeavenCFL 78.1
On this earth, we are mortal. Since the soul does not live independently from the body (see Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6; Ezekiel 18:20), when we die nothing of our spirit remains alive or immortal. Immortality is granted to the redeemed at the coming of Jesus when the mortal body puts on immortality for eternity (see 1 Corinthians 15:51-54).CFL 78.2
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.” Philippians 3:20, 21CFL 78.3
“How precious to those who are losing their loved of this world are their faith and hope in the promises of God which open before them the future immortal life! …. Hope and faith strengthen the soul to pass through the dark shadows of the tomb, in full faith of coming forth to immortal life in the morning of the resurrection.
