Counsel #17 — Power Of Words

Picture: Counsel #17 — Power Of WordsCLi 27.1

In a space of unprecedented freedom, social media often leads people to communicate in ways they wouldn’t in everyday life. Because social media interactions are generally informal and lack the accountability of face-to-face conversations, many users resort to using profanity to express their emotions.CLi 27.2

In countless posts and comments, people casually use the "F" word, the "B" word, and even take God’s name in vain. Many young people adopt this language due to peer pressure or to appear “cool,” influenced by society’s normalization of swearing as a way of self-expression. However, using offensive language online has a greater impact than it might seem on the surface. Our words and language directly influence those who hear us, and as Christians, we’re called to speak truth, love, hope, and positivity.[24]https://www.universitypkwy.org/parkway-blog/lets-get-serious-about-swearing God holds us accountable to be in the world but not of it, reflecting His light in our interactions.CLi 27.3

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29 NIVCLi 27.4

“You cannot be too careful of what you say; for the words you utter show what power is controlling the heart. If Christ rules there, your words will reveal the beauty, purity, and fragrance of a character molded and fashioned by His will.” Ellen White in In Heavenly Places, p. 174CLi 27.5

Reflect: Do you use profanity when talking with others on social media?CLi 27.6
