Counsel #4 — Fashion And Social Justice

Picture: Counsel #4 — Fashion And Social JusticeCLi 59.1

Choosing ethically sourced clothes can be a spiritual discipline! When we pursue justice to protect the exploited workers in the textile industry, we live out the principles of Christianity. When we choose sustainable fabrics such as Tencel, hemp and organic cotton, we are working to protect the environment of the planet God created for us. When we patronize clothing companies that work to give all people respect, fair wage, healthy work environments and protection, we support humanity’s value as being bought with the price of Christ’s own blood.[53]https://www.projectcece.com/blog/571/where-to-buy-ethical-clothing/CLi 59.2

Getting dressed is not a passive ritual; it’s part of how we celebrate God’s act of creating humanity in His image (see Genesis 1:27).CLi 59.3

“Defend the poor and fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and needy, deliver the poor and needy; free them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalms 82:3, 4 NKJVCLi 59.4

“The suffering and destitute of all classes are our neighbors, and when their wants are brought to our knowledge, it is our duty to relieve them as far as possible.” Ellen White in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 226CLi 59.5

Reflect: There are many ways we can incorporate our faith into our everyday living. Have you reflected on how you can improve the lives of others by choosing socially responsible clothing stores? CLi 59.6
