    Counsel #3 — Practical Fashion

    Picture: Counsel #3 — Practical FashionCLi 58.1

God wants us to enjoy dress and fashion (see Deuteronomy 26:11). We should dress in good quality clothing that suits our personality, body build, skin tones, and lifestyle. But unlike most of the world’s customs and objectives, as Christians we don’t dress to draw attention to ourselves, to flaunt our wealth, or to attract sexual notice outside of marriage. Clothing choices present us with an opportunity to think analytically about the fashion industry in a way that enables us to both live out our faith and promote justice.[52]https://www.askanadventistfriend.com/adventist-culture/how-can-honor-god-through-what-i-wear/CLi 58.2

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world or the things in the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2:15-17 NKJVCLi 58.3

“But our clothing, while modest and simple, should be of good quality, of becoming colors, and suited for service. It should be chosen for durability rather than display. It should provide warmth and proper protection.” Ellen White in The Ministry of Health and Healing, p. 162CLi 58.4

Reflect: Do you spend inordinate amounts of time thinking about fashion and clothes or do you spend so little time you are in danger of looking like a scarecrow? CLi 58.5
