Counsel #4 — The “Right” Music

Picture: Counsel #4 — The “Right” MusicCLi 75.1

Christians often debate which genres of music are acceptable. A more important question is whether or not the music honors and glorifies God.[68]https://gc.adventist.org/guidelines/a-seventh-day-adventist-philosophy-of-music/ Not all religious music honors God and not all secular music is degrading.CLi 75.2

Choose to play, sing, or listen to positive music. Music, like other media, “feeds” your mind. Think about the messages you want to dwell on and the character you want to develop.CLi 75.3

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8 NKJVCLi 75.4

“Music was made to serve a holy purpose, to lift the thoughts to that which was pure and noble and elevating, and to awaken in the soul devotion and gratitude to God.” Ellen White in Counsels for the Church, p. 172CLi 75.5

Reflect: Is the music you listen to building up your character? Is it drawing you closer to God?CLi 75.6
