    Counsel #5 — Bad Examples

    Picture: Counsel #5 — Bad ExamplesCLi 68.1

Probably nothing has a greater impact on your spirituality than your choice of close friends. In 2 Timothy 3:1-5, Paul lists ungodly behaviors that would be prevalent in the last days of earth’s history, concluding with “from such people turn away!”[61]https://adventistreview.org/news/how-to-help-your-child-navigate-unhealthy-relationships/CLi 68.2

It’s also important to consider what kind of influence you exert on others. As a young man, Samson had a heart for God but he also had a heart for the world (See Judges 16). He could have been one of the best role models Israel ever had, but instead he probably influenced many young people in Israel to compromise their faith.CLi 68.3

“Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 NKJVCLi 68.4

“As a rule, those who choose for their friends and companions, persons who reject Christ and trample upon God’s law, eventually become of the same mind and spirit. We should ever feel a deep interest in the salvation of the impenitent, and should manifest toward them a spirit of kindness and courtesy; but we can safely choose for our friends only those who are the friends of God.” Ellen White in The Signs of the Times, May 19, 1881CLi 68.5

Reflect: Everyone exerts influence. Does your influence help others choose heaven or the world? CLi 68.6
