Counsel #2 — Praying Over Media

Picture: Counsel #2 — Praying Over MediaCLi 81.1

God is waiting for us to pray—about everything in our life, including help to discern between what is good and what is evil in the media. We can even pray that the Holy Spirit helps us see the world through God’s eyes and make choices that are in line with His will (see John 16:13).CLi 81.2

We can ask God to give us strength to resist the temptation to watch movies and TV that is harmful to our spiritual health and relationship with Jesus.[73]https://www.askanadventistfriend.com/sin/how-to-resist-temptation/CLi 81.3

Finally, prayer can help us to use the media for good. The Bible says that we should "let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). We can ask God to help us use the media in a way that brings Him glory and that encourages others to follow Him.CLi 81.4

“And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent…” Philippians 1:9, 10CLi 81.5

“We should pray that God will not permit us to be brought where we shall be drawn away by the desires of our own evil hearts.” Ellen White in The Mount of Blessing, p. 117CLi 81.6

Reflect: How could you be more intentional about what you watch and listen to, instead of just turning on the TV or opening social media without thinking about it?CLi 81.7
