Counsel #5 — Social Benefits Of Marriage

Picture: Counsel #5 — Social Benefits Of MarriageCLi 7.1

Socializing is one of God’s purposes for marriage. God did not promote celibacy as His ideal, as some religious institutions do today. Husbands and wives who take time every day to connect with one another socially in love, sympathy, and true courtesy are creating a little heaven on earth.CLi 7.2

Husbands and wives should choose to enjoy each other’s company. Plan dates! Find something to do together that you both enjoy (besides mindlessly watching TV!). Walking, gardening, skiing, puzzles, swimming, home improvement, Scripture study, mission work, dining out, cooking, traveling, playing with pets—be intentional about finding ways to connect with your spouse every day.[5]https://wi.adventist.org/family-life-ministries/family-life-your-brain-in-love-and-dating-your-spouse/CLi 7.3

“Marriage is honorable.” Hebrews 13:4 NKJVCLi 7.4

“’Marriage is honourable’; it was one of the first gifts of God to man, and it is one of the two institutions that, after the fall, Adam brought with him beyond the gates of Paradise. When the divine principles are recognized and obeyed in this relation, marriage is a blessing; it guards the purity and happiness of the race, it provides for man’s social needs, it elevates the physical, the intellectual, and the moral nature.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 46CLi 7.5

Reflect: If you are married, what are the most meaningful ways you socially connect with your spouse?CLi 7.6
