Ever wondered what it really means to “be like Jesus?” As King of the Universe, you might be thinking about all the “perks” He must have! But in Mark 10:45, the gospel writer proclaims that Jesus is a servant! When Mark was writing his gospel, he chose to use the word “deacon”—the same as a servant—for Christ’s role. If you want to be “great,” Christ proclaimed, get ready to serve. When the wine ran out at a wedding in Cana, Jesus’s mother simply told the servants (literally “deacons”) to “do whatever” Jesus told them. This is the role of a deacon, a true servant—to do whatever Christ asks.CCW 26.2

Being a servant is more than an occasional act of kindness; it’s a commitment to live each day with others in mind. It’s about choosing compassion when it’s inconvenient, offering help when it disrupts your schedule, and listening when it would be easier to walk away.^{[41]https://stewardship.adventist.org/page551} Jesus’ example wasn’t just about grand sacrifices. It was and still is about daily acts of love and humility, something we can do only when He lives in our hearts.CCW 26.3
