    Counsel #3 — God’s Oneness And Unity

    Picture: Counsel #3 — God’s Oneness And UnityCCW 13.1

Have you ever noticed how elderly couples who have been married 40—50 or more years become increasingly like each other? They often have similar interests, habits, and do things the same way. They may even know each other so well that they finish each other’s sentences or just know what the other is thinking. But while couples start out apart from each other and gradually become united in thought and action, God has always been a unity.[11]https://www.adventistbiblicalresearch.org/materials/trinity-posters/ The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are so closely connected that their will and actions are in complete harmony and synchronization. This may be why the Bible says that a husband and wife become one flesh but that God (the plural Hebrew word Elohim) is one.[12]Deuteronomy 6:4CCW 13.2

“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:4-6 NKJVCCW 13.3

“The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit call upon those who have united with them, who have pledged themselves to die to the world and live unto God, to properly represent their profession of faith.” Ellen White in Letters and Manuscripts, vol. 16, Manuscript 11, 1901, par. 10CCW 13.4

Reflect: How do you understand God’s unity and oneness as similar vs. different to the unity and oneness of human families, keeping in mind that we are created beings, and not eternally pre-existent?CCW 13.5
