Fossils are our first line of evidence when considering the geological biblical assumption.^{[207]For further information, see cards #1-4 on Fossils, in our Paleontology category.} When animals die bacteria and scavengers quickly recycle their remains; consequently, fossilization rarely occurs, except in very unusual circumstances. But many fossils, amazingly well preserved, are found in earth’s lower layers of rocks. There is only one viable explanation ‒ they were buried very rapidly — actually at catastrophic speed. Why then, if fossilization requires rapid burial, do most scientists think geological processes take millions of years? Enter “assumptions.”CCW 140.2

To be accepted and considered “scientific” by most geologists, a person must believe radiometric dates of rocks (millions of years) are accurate. If that premise is accepted as accurate, then the question of whether rocks and fossils formed rapidly or very slowly will never even be pondered. The Genesis account will never be considered because the assumption of radiometric dating’s validity can’t allow for it. But, how can refusing to ask some questions produce reliable scientific answers?
