Counsel #20 — You Are Salt

Picture: Counsel #20 — You Are SaltCCW 36.1

Within the culinary arts, salt is never the main ingredient. There is no ‘salt dish,’ or salt entrée. Instead, salt is a subtle-but-ever-present necessary element that transforms the taste of a dish. Even desserts take a pinch of salt. Christ never called His disciples to be the potatoes of the earth, or the beans of the earth. He called them to be the salt—that subtle, all-encompassing, transformatory element that is necessary for life itself. You are the salt when you live out Christ’s righteousness.[52]https://adventistreview.org/cure-for-the-common-life/being-salt-in-these-dark-days/CCW 36.2

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.” Matthew 5:13CCW 36.3

“All who would present themselves ‘a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,’ must receive the saving salt, the righteousness of our Saviour. Then they become “the salt of the earth,” restraining evil among men, as salt preserves from corruption. But if the salt has lost its savor; if there is only a profession of godliness, without the love of Christ, there is no power for good. The life can exert no saving influence upon the world. Your energy and efficiency in the upbuilding of my kingdom, Jesus says, depend upon your receiving of my Spirit. You must be partakers of my grace, in order to be a savor of life unto life.” Ellen White in The Watchman, December 19, 1905, par. 3CCW 36.4

Reflect: Has your life ever lost its savor? Is your life exerting a saving influence upon the world?CCW 36.5
