Counsel #12 — Even As His Son

Picture: Counsel #12 — Even As His SonCCW 30.1

In 1902, Ellen White wrote these amazing words: “God loves us even as He loves His Son.” The irony of divine love is that we know of God’s love precisely because God gave His Son to die in our place. We glorify the cross, and place its image in churches, on stickers, and on Bibles. But for the ancients, the cross was a symbol of shame. Christ’s symbol of public shame and disgrace became our moment of glory. “By His stripes we are healed.”[45]Isaiah 53:5 Similarly, God’s emblem of sacrifice became the evidence of His love. Our love should not only be given to those who love us, but to the entire human family. If we are truly God’s followers, the Holy Spirit abiding in us will reflect God’s love to everyone.[46]https://adventistreview.org/theology/sabbath-school/the-triumph-of-gods-love/CCW 30.2

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” 1 John 4:7CCW 30.3

“The love of God, cherished in the heart, and revealed in the words and actions, will do more for human beings than all the logic in the world. Without this love, the appeals that may be made will be without power to reach and subdue hearts. In the life of Christ, this love found full and complete expression. His great heart of infinite love yearns toward every soul. He longs to make us partakers of His nature.” Ellen White in Letters and Manuscripts, vol. 17, Manuscript 47, 1902, par. 38CCW 30.4
