Counsel #23 — “Let It Happen!”

    Picture: Counsel #23 — “Let It Happen!”CCW 131.1

Some Christians believe that since future events are predetermined by prophecy, there’s no point in actively defending important principles like religious freedom, civil rights, or democratic institutions. They might even see promoting societal moral legislation as a way to hasten the Lord’s return.CCW 131.2

However, this approach is deeply flawed. The Bible calls us to action, to be like the “four angels holding back the winds of strife”[195]Revelation 7‒earnestly promoting religious liberty to make space for sharing the Gospel.[196]https://www.eldersdigest.org/en/2008/4/the-christian-and-politics By championing religious freedom and a constitution that keeps church and state separate, we create an environment where more people can encounter God’s love and understand the messages of Revelation 14.CCW 131.3

“Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Deuteronomy 16:20 NIVCCW 131.4

“It is our duty, as we see the signs of approaching peril, to arouse to action. Let none sit in calm expectation of the evil, comforting themselves with the belief that this work must go on because prophecy has foretold it, and that the Lord will shelter His people.” Ellen White in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 713CCW 131.5

Reflect: Would you rather have a "Righteous Nation" made so by coercion than a Democratic Republic with a Constitution that keeps church and state separate?CCW 131.6
