Counsel #3 — Holy Spirit Guidance

Picture: Counsel #3 — Holy Spirit GuidanceCCW 5.1

If the Bible can be compared to a map that is able to guide us through life, the Holy Spirit can be compared to the mapmaker. Before the invention of GPS navigation, it was easy to get lost while trying to figure out how to follow a map. Simply having the map wasn’t good enough! One also had to know how to read it and which part of the map was relevant to a person’s present location. Similarly, having an intellectual knowledge of Scripture isn’t enough for us. We need the Holy Spirit to teach us how to read it and to apply its truths to our current situation.[3]https://www.ministrymagazine.org/archive/1968/03/the-spirit-guides-and-showsCCW 5.2

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” John 16:13 NKJVCCW 5.3

“The Holy Spirit's work is to guide into all truth. When you depend on the word of the living God with heart and mind and soul, the channel of communication will be unobstructed. Deep, earnest study of the word under the guidance of the Holy Spirit will give you fresh manna, and the same Spirit will make its use effectual.” Ellen White in Testimonies for the Church, Volume 6 163.1CCW 5.4

Reflect: How can one move beyond an intellectual spirituality and be open to the Holy Spirit’s presence when seeking to understand God’s word?CCW 5.5
