Counsel #24 — Heartfelt Family Connections

Picture: Counsel #24 — Heartfelt Family ConnectionsCR 136.1

Dwelling in God’s presence allows His love to flow through us to others, particularly through our relationships. As a teen, recognize that forging a strong bond with your parents fosters mutual trust, respect, and love while deepening your connection with God. Win-win!CR 136.2

Teens who honor and respect their parents often experience the rewards of genuine love and protection in return. Conversely, those who rebel, disrespect, or dismiss their parents may face negative consequences in their lives due to their choices. A strong, close-knit family is vital to God’s design for humanity, as families are the foundation of resilient societies. Choosing to be intentionally present and keeping the lines of communication open with your parents helps maintain a healthy relationship. Ask God to help you forgive your parents for the times they have hurt you. The quality of your relationship with your parents will influence your own children, if you choose to have kids in the future, and even influence many generations to come.[129]https://www.adventist.org/marriage-and-the-family/born-to-connect/CR 136.3

“Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:3 NIVCR 136.4

“Let the light of heavenly grace irradiate your character, that there may be sunlight in the home. Let there be peace, pleasant words, and cheerful countenances.” Ellen White in Child Guidance, p. 45CR 136.5

Reflect: If you have a healthy relationship with your parents, what is one thing you can do to keep that bond strong? If you don’t have a healthy relationship, are you willing to restore it with God’s help?CR 136.6
