Counsel #9 — Empathy In Action

Picture: Counsel #9 — Empathy in ActionCR 27.1

Empathy is the foundation of any meaningful friendship, but it is also one of the hardest qualities to embody regardless of the circumstance. To be empathetic takes self-sacrifice; putting yourself in another person’s shoes and offering understanding and comfort during their life’s challenges.[25]https://women.adventist.org/the-role-of-empathy-in-communicationCR 27.2

When you take the time to put your feelings aside to consider a point of view that might not be your own, you are showing genuine care about your friend’s feelings and experiences. This shared connection builds trust, deepens relationships, and creates a safe environment where vulnerability is naturally welcomed. In addition, empathy also reflects God’s love and His call for us to "rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn" (Romans 12:15). Showcasing empathy in your friendships opens doors to becoming a vessel of God’s grace, reflecting His light and gentle kindness in a world so deeply in need of spirituality, patience, hope, and love.CR 27.3

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 NIVCR 27.4

“The love of God alone can open and expand the heart, and give to love and sympathy a breadth and height that is without measure. Those who love Jesus will love all the children of God.” Ellen White in Our High Calling, p. 183
