Counsel #12 — Positive Words Prevail

Picture: Counsel #12 — Positive Words PrevailCR 30.1

As Christians, we should make it our mission to always use clean speech when communicating with friends. Words hold immense power — they can either build someone up or tear them down. The words you choose to use not only influence the quality of your friendships, but also reveal what’s truly in the heart.CR 30.2

By avoiding gossip, profanity, and other negative language, you can show consideration for your friend’s feelings and create an environment where open, healthy conversations can be freely discussed without fear of judgment or ridicule. Whenever you use harsh or unkind words to communicate your feelings, especially when discussing sensitive topics, you are not using language that aligns with biblical teachings. God requires us to guard our minds and use our words intentionally, so as to not cause one of His children to fall or be swayed away from the faith. Instead, in all your conversations, offer positive affirmations and words of hope and love, further strengthening your bond with your friends and with God.[28]https://ilford.adventistchurch.org.uk/bibleinfo_topics/bad-languageCR 30.3

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29CR 30.4

“You accustom yourself to speak in a certain way, and your thoughts and actions follow your words.” Ellen White in That I May Know Him, p. 137CR 30.5

Reflect: Why do you think using unclean speech harms friendships?CR 30.6
