Counsel #7 — Reconciliation In Christian Communication

Picture: Counsel #7 — Reconciliation in Christian CommunicationCR 54.1

Forgiveness and reconciliation are essential to Christian communication. Our perfect Example of forgiveness, Jesus, mentions forgiveness many times, even in His model prayer (Matthew 6:12). We are commanded to love one another as He has loved us and accept the repenting person as a fellow child of God.[51]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vlnf53jtCHM&ab_channel=LomaLindaUniversityChurch (Begin at hour/minute marker: 2:14:10)CR 54.2

However, forgiving someone does not necessarily mean that the relationship should be restored — sometimes that’s not safe! We are to avoid the wicked and the unrepentant (2 Timothy 3:5). To truly forgive someone doesn’t mean you need to trust them. Trust is earned. It’s shown by an obvious sorrow for sin and a turning away from it; a complete transformation.[52]https://mountvernonsda.com/sermons/reconciliation-are-you-brave-enough/CR 54.3

“Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” Matthew 5:23, 24 NKJVCR 54.4

“It is not safe for Christians to choose the society of those who have no connection with God, and whose course is displeasing to Him.” Ellen White in The Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 2, p. 1001.3CR 54.5

Reflect: Have you had to forgive someone without guaranteed trust and restoration of the relationship? Is this a new concept for you?CR 54.6
