Counsel #14 — Count On Me

Picture: Counsel #14 — Count on MeCR 32.1

In today’s society, especially within the younger generation, dependability is not a concept that many people value. When considering friendships, a dependable friend is someone who consistently keeps their word, offers support during difficult times, and remains present through life’s ups and downs.[30]https://stewardship.adventist.org/page481CR 32.2

Being reliable reassures friends that they can count on you, strengthening the bond and deepening the connection. Dependable friends demonstrate love through their actions, whether it’s showing up for an important event, being a listening ear, or providing help when needed. For example, if a friend is moving and asks for help, being dependable means showing up as promised and assisting them without hesitation. Even if something comes up and you’re not able to follow through on your word, making sure that you communicate the conflict and arrange for another time to help is a necessary step to keeping that friendship alive. When in doubt, always seek God’s guidance for discernment on how to always remain a dependable friend.CR 32.3

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” Luke 16:10 NIVCR 32.4

“The first lesson to be taught ... is the lesson of dependence upon God...” Ellen White in Our Father Cares, p. 20CR 32.5

Reflect: Who are your friends you can really depend on? What makes them different from the ones you can’t depend on?CR 32.6
