    Counsel #3 — Conditions For God’s Forgiveness

    Picture: Counsel #3 — Conditions For God’s ForgivenessCR 159.1

While God is infinitely merciful and just, your sin separates you from a holy God.[153]See Isaiah 59:1, 2 The bridge to reconciliation is found in Jesus, whose death on the cross paid the penalty for your sins. Therefore, the primary condition for receiving God's forgiveness is faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior. This faith involves acknowledging your sinfulness, recognizing that your own righteousness or goodness is never enough, and trusting in Christ's work on the cross as the sole basis for your salvation.CR 159.2

Repentance and turning away from sin are also essential conditions to receiving Divine forgiveness. True repentance is a gift of God. It will demonstrate a genuine sorrow for wrongdoing and a desire to live a life pleasing to God. However, repentance is not earned forgiveness but rather a response to the gift of grace offered through Christ. Genuine repentance is not merely a superficial regret but a radical transformation of your heart.CR 159.3

Ultimately, the conditions for God's forgiveness are met through faith in Jesus Christ and the transformative power of His Spirit, leading to heart-felt confession and forgiveness of others.[154]https://www.ssnet.org/lessons/13c/less06.html  CR 159.4
