Counsel #15 — Parenting With Patience

Picture: Counsel #15 — Parenting with PatienceCR 126.1

Some say the toddler years are the hardest, but parenting a teenager brings unique challenges. With fluctuating hormones, body changes, a growing desire for independence, and the pressure to fit in, many parents find the teen stage the most difficult to navigate. As Christian parents, our goal should be to lead as Christ would.CR 126.2

Spending consistent time with the Lord is essential, as it shapes how we guide our household and how we respond to the challenges that come with parenting teenagers. If you ever needed the guidance of the Holy Spirit as a parent, you’ll certainly need Him now! Teens are perceptive; they notice authenticity. Let your teens see you reading your Bible.  Ask them how you can pray for them. Then extend to them the grace, patience, and forgiveness God extends to us.CR 126.3

Be a good listener! Sometimes the best conversations with your teen will happen late at night, in the car (think captive audience!), or out in nature. Stay ready for the moment when your teen feels open to sharing.[120]https://www.adventistworld.org/raising-responsible-kids/CR 126.4

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 NIVCR 126.5

“The greatest suffering has come upon the human family because parents have departed from the divine plan to follow their own imaginings and imperfectly developed ideas. Many parents follow impulse…” Ellen White in Child Guidance, p. 45CR 126.6

Reflect: What is one way God can be incorporated into your parenting approach?CR 126.7
