    Counsel #12 — Sex Education

    Picture: Counsel #12 — Sex EducationCR 123.1

Open and honest communication about sexuality may seem daunting, but it’s crucial for guiding your 8—12-year-old child toward a biblical understanding of love, relationships, and intimacy.CR 123.2

Choose a time when you and your child are relaxed and can focus on the topic. Start by asking open-ended questions to gauge their understanding and address any misconceptions they may have. It's important to approach the topic from a biblical perspective, emphasizing God's design for sexuality. Explain that sex is a wonderful gift from God intended for marriage between a man and a woman, as well as the negative consequences of premarital sex. Be clear and honest about the physical aspects of sex, including the changes that occur during puberty. Use age-appropriate language and avoid overwhelming your child with too much information at once.CR 123.3

Address the topic of sexual abuse and harassment. Explain that their bodies are private and that they should never allow anyone to touch them inappropriately. Encourage them to speak up if anyone makes them feel uncomfortable.CR 123.4

All aspects of your child’s sex education won’t happen in one discussion! Build a safe environment and relationship with your child, and over time God will help you equip them to make healthy choices.[116]https://www.ministerialassociation.org/pastoral-families/spouses/magazine/archives/2016/4/how-to-talk-to-your-kids-about-sexCR 123.5

“Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” Hebrews 13:4 NKJVCR 123.6

“It is moral worth that God values. Love and purity are the attributes He prizes most.” Ellen White in The Desire of Ages, p. 219CR 123.7
