Counsel #25 — Renewed Through Rest

Picture: Counsel #25 — Renewed Through RestCWe 132.1

A well-rested mind is essential for being an effective disciple of the Lord. Beyond the physical, mental, and emotional benefits, consistently getting 7-9 hours of sleep enhances spiritual growth, making it easier to absorb teachings that support meaningful evangelism.CWe 132.2

In addition to spreading the good news, deep, restorative sleep promotes self-awareness and spiritual discernment, helping create a mental environment where you can hear God’s voice more clearly. Quality rest also strengthens trust and dependence on God by reducing mental clutter and releasing daily worries that may disrupt sleep. When we prioritize restful sleep, we are better attuned to God’s presence and guidance in our lives, deepening our spiritual connection. In this state, we’re more equipped to embrace His purpose and share His love with others, making sleep not only a physical necessity but also a spiritual tool in our journey of faith.[143]https://www.thehillsda.org/blogEntry.aspx?viewblogentryguid=541f6d7e-a319-415e-bf95-141a86780955&viewblogguid=CWe 132.3

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalms 46:10 NIVCWe 132.4

“Wake up in the mornings. Set your hour to rise early, and bring yourself to it, then retire at an early hour, and you will see that you will overcome many painful disorders which distress the mind, cause gloomy feelings, discouragement, and unhappy friction, and disqualify you for doing anything without great taxation.” Ellen White in Letters and Manuscripts, vol. 5, Letter 76, 1888, par. 14CWe 132.5

Reflect: When you’re tired, do you understand spiritual things as well as when you’re rested?CWe 132.6
