Counsel #10 — Seeking The Spirit

Picture: Counsel #10 — Seeking The SpiritCWe 20.1

Have you ever wanted something so bad, but you didn’t know if you would ever receive it? Just as people of the world work tirelessly to obtain earthly pleasures such as money, cars, and homes, shouldn’t we as people of faith be seeking the Holy Spirit even more than worldly gain?CWe 20.2

After Jesus ascended back to heaven, He left the Holy Spirit with all believers to provide wisdom, strength, conviction and comfort. Actively seeking the Holy Spirit shows how important God truly is to you. Conversely, resisting the Holy Spirit or neglecting Him altogether will lead to confusion, stagnation, spiritual discouragement and a heightened vulnerability to sin. To live in this world fully relying on your own understanding is dangerous. Without the Holy Spirit’s protection and discernment, Satan has full access to do whatever he desires in our lives. We sometimes underestimate the importance of the Holy Spirit to help us live for Jesus in these difficult times. As believers, we must specifically pray for the Spirit and surrender fully to His control.[18]https://www.adventist.org/holy-spirit/CWe 20.3

“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13 NIVCWe 20.4

“Through the ministry of the angels the Holy Spirit is enabled to work upon the mind and heart of the human agent and draw him to Christ...” Ellen White in Our Father Cares, p. 136CWe 20.5

Reflect: Are you actively seeking the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life, or are you relying on your own understanding?CWe 20.6
