Counsel #14 — Excuses Stop Here

Picture: Counsel #14 — Excuses Stop HereCWe 84.1

Excuses always tend to get in the way of starting and maintaining an exercise routine, but overcoming this is key to prioritizing health and honoring the body God has given you. The most common excuses are lack of time, lack of energy, or even feeling unmotivated. Instead of convincing yourself that you can’t be consistent, reframe your thinking with practical solutions and a mindset shift.CWe 84.2

Rather than saying, "I'm too busy," consider how small amounts of physical activity—like a 10-minute walk - can fit into your day. Feeling too tired? The general rule is that regular exercise increases energy levels and enables better sleep, thus creating a positive cycle of vitality. If you struggle with motivation, strive for small, achievable goals to allow momentum to build. You can even invite God in by asking Him for the strength to overcome barriers and develop better habits. Confronting excuses with grace and intentionality will give birth to a sustainable exercise routine that will greatly improve your physical, emotional, and mental health.[96]https://record.adventistchurch.com/2021/04/01/the-dog-ate-my-homework-a-biblical-case-for-avoiding-excuses/CWe 84.3

“The Spirit God gave us does not make us afraid. His Spirit is a source of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7 ERVCWe 84.4

“When Jesus went away, He left to every man his work, and ‘nothing to do’ is an unwarrantable excuse.” Ellen White in Christian Service, p. 99CWe 84.5

Reflect: What excuse(s) do you use when it comes to exercise? Have you tried getting up for a 5-minute walk or aerobics after every hour of work or study? CWe 84.6
