    Counsel #13 — Self-Discipline

    Picture: Counsel #13 — Self-DisciplineCWe 60.1

Trying to manage our appetites in our own strength is like trying to fly without wings. We might struggle for a bit, but eventually we'll fall back into the temptations of our sinful nature.CWe 60.2

However, there's great news! Through God's transforming grace and the power of the Holy Spirit living within us, we can practice self-discipline and moderation. This doesn't mean we magically become perfect, but it allows us to rely on God's strength to manage our desires. We can break free from the hold of sinful habits and gradually align our wants and cravings with what pleases God. Our choice combined with God’s power allows us to break free from sinful habits and live that “abundant life” of victory in Christ (see John 10:10).[72]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wQ65fX1Rcs&ab_channel=HopeLives365CWe 60.3

"But we all, with unveiled face, gazing as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."
    2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV

“The secret of success is the union of divine power with human effort.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 509CWe 60.5

Reflect: What are some areas in your life where you struggle with self-discipline? (Be honest with yourself - this could be anything from managing screen time to overcoming negative emotions). In what practical ways could you invite God's transforming grace and the power of the Holy Spirit into your life?CWe 60.6
