    Picture: Counsel #4 — Overcoming AddictionCWe 148.1

Does the Bible say anything about cigarettes and recreational drugs?CWe 148.2

Our bodies are the “houses” where the Holy Spirit lives. Destroying the Holy Spirit’s house is dangerous business! Smoking and recreational drugs may cause emphysema, heart and lung disease, and cancer—definitely destructive stuff. Though the Bible does not say anything specifically about cigarettes, it does provide principles to help us be healthy, energetic, and free from disease and addiction.CWe 148.3

Even if Satan has enslaved you with the chains of addiction, there is hope in Christ! Jesus has the power to set you free! Pray and ask Him to help you.[159]https://www.adventistpublishing.org/mission-365/glow-tracts/breaking-addictions/CWe 148.4

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36 NKJVCWe 148.5

“‘I keep under my body,’ the apostle says. This means literally to beat back its desires and impulses and passions by severe discipline, even as did those competing for an earthly prize.” Ellen G. White in Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 6, p. 1089CWe 148.6
