    Counsel #2 — Food

    Picture: Counsel #2 — FoodCWe 49.1

Food, a gift from God's bountiful creation, sustains us. Yet, the Garden of Eden story (see Genesis 3) reminds us of the potential danger of unchecked desires. When Adam and Eve succumbed to the forbidden fruit, their hunger went beyond simple nourishment; it became a yearning for power and knowledge outside of God's plan. Their fall echoes in our own tendencies towards gluttony, where overindulgence becomes a form of idolatry, prioritizing fleeting pleasure over obedience.[54]https://www.stepstolife.org/article/restoring-the-temple-control-of-appetite/CWe 49.2

“Many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things, for our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3:18-20 NKJVCWe 49.3

“The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point they would have had moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan.” Ellen White in Maranatha, p. 62CWe 49.4
